Pest Control Service FAQ's
Q. What about my children and pets?
A. We use EPA registered products and we use the utmost care when it comes
to your safety. If it will be necessary to remove pets or vacate during
a treatment, we will notify you in advance. It is usually not necessary
to leave.
Q. What if I am pregnant, have a new baby, or have a suppressed immune
system?
A. Just as a precaution, we ask that you leave the premises for at least
2 hours. We also recommend that anyone in the home with a breathing disorder
or an elderly person be taken from the home for a couple hours.
Q. If I see a pest problem after my regular service will you come back?
A. It is usual to see an increase in insect activity right after our service.
If the problem persists after several days, we'll return at NO CHARGE.
Q. What about rain?
A. All of the material used in our pest management programs are designed
for all weather conditions.
Q. If I didn't see any pests, can I skip a service?
A. Remember, "when we do our best job there is nothing there."
For us to maintain control, we must perform all of your services.
Q. I didn't smell anything after our service technician left.
A. Betts Pest Control Inc. is concerned about your environment. We use
low-odor products.
Q. How soon can I water after your visit?
A. We use a water-based formulation. When your property is dry (usually
15-25 minutes), you can water without losing control of pests.
Q. After my first visit, when will you come back?
A. You can expect us within the next 60 days, or every other month. Call
us if there is a special need.
Q. When you treat inside my cabinets, do I need to wash them when you
are done?
A. No. If you plan to wash out your cabinets, do so before our treatment.
Also, please remove any loose shelf paper at this time. Be sure all cabinets
are dry before putting items back in your cabinets.
Q. How can I tell what kind of bug I have a problem with?
A. If you are unsure what kind of roach, spider, termite or other kind
of bug you have, the best way to find out is to have it identified by
a professional pest control technician.
Q. What is the best way to catch a specimen for identification?
A. We recommend that you spray the bug with hairspray and then place it
in a plastic bag to give to the technician for identification. You can
also bring the insect into our office for fast, accurate identification.
Q. Why should I hire a professional pest control technician rather
than do the job myself?
A. Chemicals sold by home improvement or garden centers can have a residual
effect for as short as 30 minutes. Many of our products used for residential
insect and rodent control last at least 60 days to keep working between
treatments.
Q. Will the products you treat our homes with be environmentally safe
to both humans and our pets?
A. The various pesticides, baits, traps, and pest management strategies
used by Betts Pest Control Inc. are the very latest in technology that
the industry has to offer. Environmentally friendly products along with
integrated pest management strategies are used to give our customers they
very best in control with less use of chemical and effective results.
Pests FAQ's
Q. What are the top residential insect problems we face in Kansas?
A. The biggest problems we face currently are spiders, silverfish, roaches,
and mice. We highly recommend perimeter treatments along with baiting
around homes, entry points, and favorable outdoor areas. Together with
interior treatments, this will get rid of the pests for a period of time;
however, multiple treatments may be needed throughout the year for best
results. For a quote or any kind of additional questions, please send
us an Email with your name, phone number, and your question.
Termite FAQ's
Q. How prevalent are termite problems in Kansas?
A. Kansas has a very active termite population developing. It has been
estimated that over 80% of existing untreated homes in the Wichita area
are very susceptible to this problem. Last year Betts Pest Control Inc.
treated and inspected thousands of homes in the Wichita area. There are
several treatment techniques available which are very effective. So if
you have any questions or suspicions of termite activity in your home
or business, please contact us at 316.943.3555 for more information or
or you can e-mail us your questions.
Q. Why should I pre-treat my house for termites?
A. Wichita has a problem with termites. With the increase in rainfall
amounts we have received in the last two seasons, termite populations
continue to increase. Damage by termites cannot be seen until the damage
is done. This can be expensive as well as inconvenient to you as a homeowner.
Pre-treating your home also has another benefit. New homes built in previously
undeveloped areas are subject to termite infestation because the termite
population has never been reduced from previous treatments. Pre-treating
helps control these insects that your new house is being built on top
of.
Q. How do I know if I have termite problem?
A. Have an authorized pest management professional inspect your home for
evidence of termites, like wood damage and mud tubes. Be sure to indicate
if you see swarming termites or discarded wings near doors and windows.
Q. What is in Recruit II termite bait that eliminates termite colonies?
A. the active ingredient in the bait is hexaflumuron, an insect growth
regulator (IGR) stops the termites' vital molting process, so they are
unable to grow. As a result, they die.
Q. Why can't you just put recruit II in all the stations right away?
A. Establishing feeding in the station first is critical. Baiting all
the stations offers no advantage in the speed of colony elimination, and
would be an inappropriate use of the termite bait.
Q. How long does it take to eliminate the colony?
A. Once the Sentricon System is installed, it can take from a few weeks
to several months for termites to enter the stations, depending on several
factors including time of year, geography, termite pressure and termite
species. Once the termites are transferred to Baitube devices and begin
feeding on Recruit II termite bait, the process of decline toward colony
elimination begins. Ask your authorized pest management professional about
the average length of time necessary for colony elimination in your area.
Q. What if my house is already infested with subterranean termites?
A. The Sentricon System will be installed to eliminate the termite colony
and the long-term threat. If infestation is so great that termite mud
tubes are visible inside the house or recent termite damage is close to
the surface, Recruit AG termite bait may be used. Recruit AG makes the
termite bait immediately available to termites forging inside the house.
Together, in-ground Sentricon stations and above-ground Recruit AG stations
will reach more termites, more quickly.
Q. Is Sentricon effective against the kind of termites I have?
A. Recruit II termite bait used in the Sentricon System is effective against
all economically important subterranean (not drywood) termite species
in the continental U.S. and Hawaii. It does the job in varying soil, climatic
and geographic conditions.
Q. Why don't the termites just go between the stations to reach my
house?
A. Termites continuously search for new feeding sites, even though they
may have already located an abundant food source. Termites also feed randomly
among all available food sites within their foraging area. Therefore,
if termites are foraging near your home, they will find and attack the
monitoring devices in one or more of the stations, even if the colony
is located beneath the home.
Q. If my neighbors use the Sentricon System, won't my house be protected,
too?
A. No. The Sentricon System can only protect structures where it's installed.
It's possible that there are many colonies foraging in your neighborhood
and the one that's attacking your home may not be the one attacking your
neighbor's home.
Q. When the colony has been eliminated, will the stations be removed?
A. Once a colony has been eliminate, another one could invade your property.
To keep your home protected, your authorized pest management firm will
offer a continuous protection plan in which the Sentricon stations remain
in the ground and are professionally monitored for future termite invasions.
Q. Why should I use the Sentricon system instead of other methods?
A. University research has documented that conventional treatment methods
do not provide termite colony elimination. The Sentricon System has proven
colony elimination in the United States and other countries (ask your
authorized pest management professional for written examples). In addition,
the Sentricon System is non-disruptive to your daily activities and provides
continuous protection against future termite colony attacks.
