Termite Control ChemicalsA note on Chlordane .. Velsicol Chemical Co., on August 11, 1987, voluntarily stopped manufacturing and selling chlordane and heptachlor. Our findings indicate that Chlordane persists in the soil 10, 20, 30 years or longer in some cases. If your home has been treated with Chlordane you should still have it inspected annually to determine if a break in the soil has allowed termites back in. Some sites have needed to be retreated, but a large percentage of homes treated over 10 years ago with Chlordane remain termite-free to this date. The good news is that the new chemicals used for termite treatment are non-repellent, causing large numbers of termites to be killed because they cannot detect the chemicals in the soil and termite colonies will be reduced in population by this type of treatment. Betts Pest Control, Inc. recommends the use of Bayer Premise or Termidor® because they are less toxic and have the least odor (making them safer chemicals for the homeowner and our applicator). There are some trade-offs, all of the newer chemicals cost a little more and their persistence in the soil will be shorter, on average 5-6 years. If the staff at Betts Pest Control, Inc. can be of further assistance,
please call 316.943.3555. Sincerely, Chad Betts
